To coincide with the start of a Creative and Life Writing master’s degree at Goldsmiths College, I’ve added a brand new interactive online Forum for all would-be writers and artists. As well as interacting online with fellow students at Goldsmiths, I very much hope that some of you will take up this invitation to join in the fun and debate, too.
Our MA program requires a combination of practical and theoretical/reflective work as part of the assessment process – together with a critical account of how the work has been structured and developed. As many of us, myself included, are in the process of writing our debut novel/non-fiction volume of prose or poetry, the creation of this new online community to discuss the process of researching and writing a first book should appeal to a wide range of writers both at home and abroad. Participating Forum members are encouraged to actively engage with one another and the writing process, and joining the site offers benefits to members such as exclusive podcasts and interviews, plus original articles and tips for amateur and professional writers and artists alike.
We have first-hand access to a range of ‘guest tutors’ at Goldsmiths who are themselves professional writers. These include Blake Morrison, Bernadine Evaristo, Romesh Gunesekera, Pamela Johnson, Glyn Maxwell, Richard Skinner, Jack Klaff and many more. So, if nothing else, you’ll be able to get some of your burning questions answered and receive some useful tips and tricks on writing from some of the very best in the business today. Check out the recent forum post on author Nick Drake and the challenge of writing his first novel, for example, you may find it interesting.
The new Forum is live online and awaiting your involvement now. Registered members may read and post topics of common interest and regular use should be of value to anyone in the business of writing for a living, both in terms of accessing the content and actively participating in discussions. Your regular participation may even generate highly-qualified leads and opportunities.
While forums differ in their treatment of self-promotion, this particular model is geared specifically towards the promotion of you, networking, and the exchange of information and learning. With a focus on ease of use, aesthetics, audio and video clips, podcasts, typographical niceties, and multiple authors, you’ll be able to upload your work and showcase yourself with picture profiles and biographical notes. Sounds good?
Why not drop by, sign up, log in, and check it out? You’ll be welcome.
