A unique event - 2 weeks, many venues, hundreds of events - and London from circa 50 AD
The Festival is completely open access, so anything goes. From comedy, music, poetry, film, theatre, street shows, tours, children's events, art and photography – to the famous Borough Market - the Festival will definitely have something to suit everyone's needs and pockets. Anyone can take part, from first timers to professionals. If you have an event, gig, exhibition, tour, open day, production or performance you can take advantage of marketing it through the Festival.
What's more many of the acts will show or perform their work at this Festival before going north to the Edinburgh Fringe which takes place a couple of weeks later.
Perhaps the most unique area of London – steeped in history, with incredible attractions, entertaining venues and a rich diversity of life and people. From the very first London Bridge, built by Romans around 50 AD to the present one finished in 1973 there is little the area hasn't undergone. You can feel that history as you walk down the cobbled streets behind Southwark Cathedral, or near the ruins of Winchester Palace built as a residence for entertaining the Bishops of Winchester over 800 years ago.
The Festival centre is just across the river from the City, and a stone's throw from Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. To the West is the South Bank Art Centre, the Tate Modern and to the East is Tower Bridge and the Docklands.
Press and promotion
The Festival office is the central point of contact for all events. It manages http://www.londonbridgefestival.com - which contains all the information to do with the Festival, from individual participant details to programme listings to national press contacts. It will design, print and distribute promotional material in June, and promote the event to the public and press before and during the Festival.
Social Issues
There will be a Social Action strand running through the Festival as a way to raise awareness of and commitment to social campaigns, such as climate change, human rights, Fair Trade, and other issues. More information here. This is in partnership with 21st-Century Network.
We will be holding an open meeting on 12 February, 2009 featuring invited artists/performers who use their work to encourage social action. Venue and guests to be announced.
